Universities in the Arab region rise in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022

Saudi Arabia is confirmed regional leader while United Arab Emirates, Lebanon and Jordan achieve a record number of ranked topics compared to previous editions.

LONDON, April 7, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The twelfth edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, compiled by global higher education analysts QS Quacquarelli Symonds, provides an independent comparative analysis of 15,200 individual university programs studied at 1543 universities in 88 sites around the world, in 51 academic disciplines. Harvard University and MIT world leaders in twelve subjects each, University of Oxford leads in six subjects.

52 universities in the Arab region appears in this edition, with 324 classified programs: in 2022, 42 drop out, 121 are unchanged, 64 are new entries.

Universities in the Arab region also appear 57 times in the ranking by faculty area (Arts and Humanities, Engineering and Technology, Life Sciences, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences), with 30 upgraded rank positions. The top-ranked university programs in the region are engineering (88), computer science (31), and medicine (31). Egypt has the highest number of ranked universities (13), followed by Saudi Arabia (10) and the United Arab Emirates.

The best regional university is Saudi King Fahd University of Petroleum and Mineralsrank 6and globally in Petroleum engineering and 16and globally in Engineering – Minerals and Mining. The second best regional university is Khalifa University in the United Arab Emirates, which ranks among the top 20 in petroleum engineering.
Qatar has the highest ratio of academic-to-ranked programs.
