CHENNAI: Schools will reopen for students in Grades I to X on June 13 after the summer holidays, Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said on Wednesday.
Schools will reopen for Class XII on June 20. For class XI, classes will start on June 27.
While the Class XII board exams ended on May 23, the Class X exams will end on May 30. Class XI board exams end on May 31.
Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said all free items like schoolbags, crayons, geometry boxes will be distributed within one month after schools reopen. He added that the number of absentee board exams had increased this year. “In class X, 21,000 to 24,000 would be absent from exams. However, this year, 46,800 students were absent. We will organize additional examinations in July and September. We will try to bring all the absentees to the additional examinations after analyzing the reasons for their absence,” he said.
In launching the school school calendar for 2022-23, the minister said schools would have a regular school year after the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to the schedule, there will be a total of 210 school work days in the next school year. Class XII board exams will start on March 13, 2023 and Class XI board exams will start on March 14, 2023. Class X exams are scheduled to start on April 3. The annual exams for Classes I to IX will begin on April 20 and the last working day would be April 28.
The number of vacations for quarterly exams has been reduced to five while semester exams will have nine vacations in the next academic year.
The Minister also launched a training calendar for teachers and electronic registers for schools. “Teachers keep nearly 100 files in schools. We plan to completely digitize school records by introducing electronic records,” Poyyamozhi told reporters.
