Schools from all local government areas in Edo State are eager to participate in the Princess Mabel Madojiemu U-15 Athletics Championships scheduled for September 29-30.

More than 500 athletes are expected in the championships scheduled for the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin City.

However, organizers of the meet for U-15 boys and girls received registrations from schools, which far exceeded their estimates.

“Many schools outside of Benin City are also eager to participate in the championships,” said Mutiu Oluwa Edo, head coach of Athletics State.

“Now we have to make sure that all the schools meet all the requirements, the age limit and the rules have to be followed; and those who cannot maintain discipline would not be allowed to enter. We do not want to overload the budget.

The meet is sponsored by former international 400m runner Princess Mabel Madojiemu, with support from compatriot Austin Poland Oritshe.
