Program to secure admission for Yakima area students to 6 public schools | Local

Eligible students from multiple schools in the Yakima Valley will have guaranteed admission to six colleges and universities around Washington through a district-college partnership.

Participating local districts include Yakima, Sunnyside, West Valley, Granger, Naches Valley, Selah, Wapato and Zillah school districts, according to a list of the Washington State Council of Presidentsa group of presidents of public colleges and universities.

Colleges will contact eligible students, although students must still complete the application process, according to a Yakima School District press release. Students will need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and the Washington State Financial Aid Application.

Each participating college has its own minimum unweighted GPA requirement.

Washington State University requires a 3.6 GPA. Pacific Lutheran University requires a 3.3 GPA. Central Washington University, Eastern Washington University, and Western Washington University require a 3.0 GPA. Evergreen State College requires a 2.5 GPA.

Students must also meet the College’s academic distribution requirements, the statement said.

“This is a great and incredible opportunity for students to jump straight from high school to college and not worry too much about the application process,” YSD Superintendent Trevor Greene said in a statement. announcement video.

The partnership comes after the Washington Student Achievement Council called for a fairer approach to the college admissions process, according to the release. Across the state, 60 districts are participating in the guaranteed admissions pilot program this school year.
