Mask Policies for Tri-State Schools

CINCINNATI (WXIX) — School districts and universities in the three states are rolling out their plans on whether or not they will require students and staff to wear masks when they return to class.

The Ohio Department of Health recommends wearing a mask for unvaccinated people.

Cincinnati Public Schools – The Cincinnati Public Schools School Board voted unanimously to require indoor masks for the start of the 2021-22 school year. The policy applies to vaccinated and unvaccinated students. Masks will not be required outside.

State of Cincinnati – Masks are required indoors and in parking lots, regardless of vaccination status.

Edgewood City Schools – Beginning September 9, all students and staff will be obligation to wear a mask at any time at school, regardless of vaccination status. The school board will reevaluate the requirement on September 27.

Fairfield City Schools – The school district strongly recommends that all students and staff wear masks regardless of vaccination status inside. Masks must be worn on the bus in accordance with the federal mandate regarding face coverings on public transportation.

Forest Hills School District – Elementary students will be required to wear a mask when in instructional environments, but it will be optional in hallways, restrooms, recess, and other non-educational environments. For the first two weeks of the new school year, wearing a mask will be strongly encouraged – but not compulsory – for middle and high school students.

City of Hamilton Schools – Beginning Wednesday, September 8, all district students and employees will be required to wear masks indoors, regardless of their immunization status.

Indian Hill – Indoor mask mandate for all students and staff until at least September 14.

Kings Local School District – Masks are required for students in kindergarten through 6th grade.

Lakota Local School District – Masks are mandatory for all students and staff inside school buildings.

Lebanon City Schools – (UPDATE 8/31) Students will be required to wear a mask on August 31. Students will then take a break and not be in school. When students return from vacation on September 7, a three-week mask mandate will be in effect.

Lockland Local Schools – Universal Masking for Students and Staff.

Loveland City Schools – Students in classes PreK-6 will be required to wear a mask indoors. Students in grades 7-12 will be strongly encouraged to wear a mask, but parental choice will remain in effect. Staff will mask PreK-12.

Madeira City Schools – The district strongly recommends that unvaccinated students and staff wear a mask when indoors.

Schools in the city of Mariemont – Wearing a mask is compulsory for elementary students inside school facilities during the school day. Middle and high school students who are not vaccinated are strongly encouraged to wear a mask inside school facilities.

Mason City Schools (UPDATE 8/16) – PreK – Grade 6 students will be required to wear masks indoors while at school. Highly recommended for middle and high school students to wear masks indoors, especially for those who are not vaccinated.

University of Miami – Miami will require face coverings indoors at all times, regardless of vaccination status.

Middletown City Schools (UPDATE 8/16) – Masks are required for all students and staff inside school buildings.

Monroe Local Schools – Masks for students and staff beginning Tuesday, September 7.

Mt. Healthy City Schools – Masks will be required for all K-12 students and staff. Wearing a mask will be compulsory on school buses. They will also be required for all sporting events and extracurricular activities.

Northwest Local School District – Masks are mandatory for students and staff from 1 September. The district started the school year with a mask-optional policy.

Oak Hills School District – Board of Education says it’s up to parents to decide.

Princeton School District – Universal masking is required for K-12 students as well as staff, visitors and volunteers in all school buildings and indoor activities.

University of Cincinnati – Masks are required indoors for everyone, regardless of vaccination status. Outside, unvaccinated people will be required to wear a mask if appropriate social distancing cannot be maintained.

Wyoming City Schools – Masking will be mandatory for all students, staff, and visitors inside school buildings.

Xavier University – Everyone, regardless of immunization status, must wear a mask or face covering in indoor buildings on campus beginning Monday, August 9.

A Kentucky school board the mask order is in effect for public schools in Kentucky. According to KBE regulations, anyone inside a public school facility must wear a face covering over their nose and mouth while students are present in the facility.

Children under the age of 2 and anyone with a physical or mental disability or impairment that prevents them from safely wearing a face covering are exempt from the regulation. There are also additional groups and circumstances exempt from the mask requirement under the regulations.

On August 23, Governor Andy Beshear overturned a universal masking order in all Kentucky schools, public and private, after the Kentucky Supreme Court ruled against him.

Schools in the Catholic Diocese of Covington – Masks will be mandatory starting September 7.

University of Northern Kentucky – Masks are required inside campus buildings.

Franklin County Community Schools – Masks are required on the bus regardless of vaccination status. Masks are strongly recommended for unvaccinated students and staff inside school buildings.

Lawrenceburg Community Schools – (UPDATE 8/20) Mask required for everyone, regardless of vaccination status from Monday, August 23, 2021. This will apply to all indoor activities (curricular and extracurricular) when three-foot social distancing is not possible.

Sunman-Dearborn Community Schools – Masks are no longer required inside a school building or on a bus.
