Hochul ends mask mandate for schools: Saying, “My friends, the day has come,” New York State Governor Kathy Hochul announced that statewide mask requirements in schools will end on Wednesday. Hochul said declining rates of Covid-19 infections in children and the general population, along with recent guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, have driven the change.

Russia puts its nuclear forces on high alert: Russian President Vladimir Putin put his nuclear forces on heightened alert on Sunday in an unprecedented escalation of tensions with the West. Russia’s massive conventional military assault on Ukraine continued with fighting on the streets of the country’s second-largest city.
The proposal would turn the YMCA’s suburban site into an apartment complex: A developer known for building apartment complexes in Radisson has a proposal for another housing project in the town of Lysander. The Drake’s Landing apartments would be built on 22 acres that were once considered a site for the YMCA in Lysander.
CNY Brewery will open a new tasting room in a historic inn: The Hulburt House, built circa 1812, has long been a welcome stopover and stopover in Boonville, northern Oneida County. One of New York City’s top brewpubs plans to open a new bar in the historic inn.

The Blue Devils rout Orange: It took just four minutes for Duke to end any hope of a Syracuse upset — or even a competitive game — at the Carrier Dome on Saturday. Duke looked like the seventh team in the nation, while Syracuse had all the problems associated with going around the .500 mark, and the Blue Devils beat Orange 97-72 in front of 31,803 fans.
SU men’s lacrosse fails again against a top team: It was another game in which Syracuse fell behind and staged a comeback, only to falter late against a national title contender. On Saturday, it was Virginia, the two-time defending champion, who jumped early on Syracuse and ended in a 20-11 victory. ESPN analyst needed just one word to sum up his views on how SU can get back to Championship level.
