Dr. Nirosha Murugan receives Rising Star Achievement Award from Minister of Colleges and Universities

Today, the Ministry of Colleges and Universities announced the recipients of the Minister of Colleges and Universities’ Awards of Excellence. Dr. Nirosha Murugan of Algoma University received the Rising Star Award for her innovative research and teaching excellence.

The annual Excellence Awards celebrate the incredible work of faculty, staff and graduate students on campuses, in communities and beyond across Ontario. The nominees are recognized leaders in the field of post-secondary education, and Dr. Murugan is a perfect example.

“It is such an honor to be recognized with such a prestigious award, and I am so grateful to those who nominated me and continually support my growth as an early career researcher,” said Dr Murugan, associate professor in the Department of Biology. . “I am privileged to be part of this tight-knit community which, in its own way, is so dedicated to bringing excellence and innovation not only in research but also in teaching, especially in these difficult times. It is inspiring to know that I am part of significant growth and innovation and to be recognized by my students, colleagues and members of the scientific community is truly humbling.

In recognition of this prestigious award, Dr. Murugan attended a closed meeting this morning with the Honorable Jill Dunlop, Minister of Colleges and Universities, and will receive an official certificate signed by the Minister.
