I do think we should start a campaign of replacing hotel Bibles with something else.

I'm not sure what yet... I've considered either great works of literature (the Aeneid, Hamlet), great works of science (Principia Mathematica, On the Origin of Species, On the Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies) or great works of philosophy (Foundations of the Metaphysics of Morals, Utilitarianism, Justice as Fairness); so far, I cannot decide.

I'm not sure how I feel about ripping pages from the Bible. While I agree that the Bible is a horrible and false book that does not deserve the respect it gets and probably isn't even worth reading, on the other hand I have a deep aversion to censorship, which I would consider nearly always immoral. Admittedly ripping a page from one copy of the Bible doesn't quite reach censorship, but it leans in that direction, and that worries me.

If you tried to burn the Bible or the Qur'an---nay, even if you cast Mein Kampf itself upon the fire---I would be the first to leap in after it. Censorship is a greater evil than any written word, no matter how depraved.

The Religious Right is arguably that ("right" as in Rightist, not as in correct), but the Moral Majority is clearly neither.

I'd be interested to hear the specifics of Lynn's list, but I think I could define the list this way:

How to tell if you're hated by the Religious Right:
1. Are you a member of the Religious Right who conforms to all the standard views thereof?
If Yes: You are probably not hated by the Religious Right.
If No: You are definitely hated by the Religious Right.
